In a ranking tracking the opinions of thousands of foreign students residing in Asian countries carried out by the Hong Kong-based Asia Week magazine, Fukuoka was chosen as the most livable Asian city as many as three times in total. Home to over 150 institutions of higher learning, including universities and special training colleges, Fukuoka is the largest commercial city in the Kyushu region with a population of 1.4 million residents. The city is a major traffic hub linked to other regions via its airport, Shinkansen lines and highways, making it a highly convenient gateway to Kyushu. From Fukuoka, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore are only a short distance away. On the domestic side, facing the Sea of Genkai, Fukuoka is blessed with abundant nature providing citizens with plenty of fresh fish and vegetable products to enjoy. Nearby one can discover the beautiful landscape surrounding Mount Aso famous for its volcanic caldera as well as the Ariake Seafs extraordinary tidal wetlands exposed by the most drastic tidal variations in the whole of Japan.
The campus of the Kyushu University Faculty of Medicine, the second largest medical campus in Japan with plenty of greenery, is located in the inner city district of Fukuoka. Ever since its founding over one hundred years ago, the faculty has continued nurturing the dreams and hopes of young people aspiring to a career in medicine.

Tenjin area in the center of Fukuoka -- Department stores, business estates and other commercial facilities as well as event venues and City Hall are located here. It takes approximately ten minutes to reach Tenjin and the central district from our campus. |

Fukuoka Airport -- With both domestic and foreign air routes, Fukuoka Airport is a major hub of air traffic with 350 departures and arrivals each day. The airport lies adjacent to the inner city area and it takes only 15 minutes to get there from our campus. |

The Momochihama area facing Hakata Bay (with Umi no Nakamichi and Shiga Island visible in the distance) -- Scattered around Momochihama are the Seahawk Hotel, Fukuoka Dome, Soft Research Park and the Fukuoka City Museum. It takes only 15 minutes to reach this area by bus (via the city highway) from Tenjin or the central district. |
